About Us

The educational makerspace for implementing innovative teaching and learning concepts.

The Cooperative Liberal Laboratory (CoLiLab) is located in the Science Center (1st and 2nd floors) of the Weingarten University of Education. This educational makerspace for designing digital teaching and learning materials was established in 2019 as part of the TPACK 4.0 project.
The basic idea was to create an open teaching and learning laboratory with collaborative workspaces for prospective teachers of STEM subjects, where traditional and digital media - such as 3D scanners & printers, cutting plotters, modern video & audio recording equipment, or single-board computers - are available. Students, faculty, and schoolchildren were to be given the opportunity to develop and implement ideas and projects for science education. To this end, creative spaces were also established for generating and implementing ideas.

Today, the CoLiLab is available to ALL subjects and offers all interested faculty and students the equipment and support needed to prepare future teachers for the didactically targeted use of digital media in subject-specific instruction.

Our Concept

At the CoLiLab Makerspace

Our approach is based on the belief that learning is most effective when it is self-directed and self-managed. That is why we have developed a range of self-learning materials that enable our users to tackle their projects on their own.

Our makerspace is designed to foster users’ creativity, technological understanding, and media education skills. The materials and resources provided are designed to teach the fundamentals and advanced knowledge necessary for successfully implementing their own projects.

Of course, our staff supports users in their projects, but problem-solving skills play a major role in the making process. True to the motto “as much support as necessary, as little support as possible,” users are guided to first engage intensively with problem-solving and, in doing so, develop the necessary digital skills on their own. So don’t be surprised if your project isn’t made for you, but by you.

Our Team

Creative Commons Licensing

In our view, high-quality education and teaching and learning materials should be available to everyone free of charge.
High-quality teaching and learning materials developed at CoLiLab are reviewed for content and then licensed under the Creative Commons license (CC BY). This makes them available to the general public as Open Educational Resources (OER).
As a result, other teachers can use these materials in their classrooms without any licensing concerns.
